Introduction:
Dental pain, a widespread and unsettling issue
impacting millions globally. Its spectrum ranges from mild sensitivity to
intense throbbing pain, profoundly influencing individuals’ quality of life.
Dental pain can stem from various causes, including
tooth decay, dental infections, trauma, etc. Seeking professional dental advice
is crucial for accurate diagnosis and effective management.
This survey aims to explore patients’ preferred
treatment plans for dental pain, specifically when the choices are between
extraction and root canal treatment.
Methods:
In this retrospective study, a diverse sample
from the general population was chosen. Demographic information, familiarity
with relevant terms, prior experiences with extraction and root canal
treatment, and factors influencing decision-making were gathered through a
Google-formatted questionnaire. Statistical analysis deemed significance at a
threshold of 0.05.
Results:
68.3% of patients had encountered dental pain,
and 75.3% were familiar with terms like root canal treatment and extraction.
The primary concern for patients (61.6%) was the cost of treatment, with
factors such as recovery time, overall health, and the dentist’s qualification
following in consideration order.
